Abstract :
A very simple coaxial step index optical fiber structure is introduced for large mode area (LMA) robustly-single-mode operation. Fundamental mode operation in the fiber is realized by the introduction of a narrow ring close to the core. Numerical results show that all the high order modes are coupled into the ring, while the fundamental mode dominates in the low numerical aperture core.
