Abstract :
Power industry faces new challenges due to fast growing cities, deregulation of power sector in many countries and investments required to meet raising demands. Till now the focus of electricity industry has been on the generation sector; this has left transmission and distribution networks with aged equipment, overload lines, power loss and reduced reliability. High temperature superconducting cable is a new technology that promises network reliability to improve within the new cable´s capacity to transmit more power compared with conventional ones while reducing power losses. In this paper different HTS cable behaviors in presence of disturbance and short circuit conditions are shown and its impact on the transient and dynamic stability of a typical power grid is analyzed using NEPLAN software. This is the topic less discussed in previous studies on HTS cable technologies.
