Abstract :
In this paper, the present state of the art of high temperature superconducting (HTS) wires is reviewed and their potential impact on electric machine design is assessed. Reference is made to the conventional superconducting generator, the inside-out generator (with stationary field), and the all-superconducting generator (with both superconducting field and stator windings). Economic and breakeven power ratings for HTS synchronous AC generators are also discussed
