Abstract
The authors review current broadband services which have been put into commercial use by NTT (Nippon telegraph and telephone corporation). Trends in user demand for those services are also discussed. Key technologies for supporting broadband services are described. An evolutionary approach to broadband ISDN (integrated services digital network) based on the module concept and a unified architecture is proposed
