Abstract :
Facility layout problems have major interrelation with Layout Design problems which leads to a significant impact on the success of a particular manufacturing organization. Selection of a useful, effective and manageable layout is the key in achieving that result. Decision making process in selecting the layout design becomes the starting point before achieving the ultimate goals of an organization - maximum productivity and efficiency. Scrutiny should be given top priority during the search for the best alternative. Numerous research works related to decision making have been published, however, studies on the types of decision making methods; in selecting the facility layout, has not been extensively done. Group Decision making method has been identified, as a method which is not only effective but is also able to solve a majority of uncertainties in the decision making process for selecting the final facility layout. This paper discusses some problems in the traditional approach of group decision process. A research direction on group decision making to solve the problem of selecting the ultimate facility layout has been proposed.
