Abstract :
A laser diode (LD) with narrow beam divergence is attractive for a low cost subscriber light source module, since its high fiber-coupling efficiency enables lensless assembly. Integrating a beam-expander (BEX) with an LD is one of the most promising ways for decreasing beam divergence of an LD. In this paper, we explicitly analyzed the reflection in a horizontally tapered BEX integrated with a LD by the finite-difference time-domain (FD-TD) method using massively parallel processors to reduce computation time.
