Abstract :
In this paper, a novel algorithm with overall advantages for Bluetooth scatternet formation is presented. The proposed algorithm achieves the following desirable properties. Firstly, our algorithm comprehensively thinks over those factors that have a significant impact on the scatternet final connectivity, only a few of which are available in previous algorithms. Furthermore, the resulting scatternet topology is an asynchronous and interconnected mesh within local communication range. In comparison, most star- or tree-like scatternet topologies can easily form a communication bottleneck at some nodes. Especially, our algorithm is self-healing in that nodes can join and leave arbitrarily without causing long disruptions in connectivity. As far as we know, the fault-tolerant issue has not been properly addressed by existing scatternet specification yet. In additions, simulation results show that the algorithm can be effectively applied to the establishment of a Bluetooth scatternet.
