Abstract :
Summary form only given. Wind power has been highlighted as the most successful renewable energy resource in today´s competitive electricity markets. Wind power project interconnection and integration are challenges for wind power developer, TOs and RTOs to ensure the system operation and market operation successes and involve all the perspectives of today´s wholesale energy markets, from system planning, construction, network upgrades, operation coordination and market integrations, etc. From the engineering management perspective, this panel will review the roadmap of wind power interconnection and integration within the scope of PJM market and operation tariffs. The roadmap covers from project interconnection and construction agreements to the facilitation of network upgrade and attachment facility scope study/change, IPP construction milestones, energization/outage coordination and market integration, with wind power developers and Transmission Owners. Experiences show the advantages of the structured project roadmap in the first 1.5 GW wind power integrations and their successes in PJM market. Ongoing challenges on wind power modeling, forecasting and dispatch will be discussed as well.
