Based on the approach that combines quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, some typical districts or buildings in Guangzhou that are in different phases of adding elevators to existing residential buildings are chosen as the subjects of the research in this paper. In the mean time, in-depth interview and questionnaire inquires are conducted with the residents concerned, which are statistically analyzed by using SPSS software, and the results are used for cross section analysis and comparative analysis against the in-depth interview results. At last, a relative accurate reflection of the opinions and views of the residents regarding adding elevators to existing residential buildings are presented in this paper, and some relevant policy advices are put forward accordingly.
