Abstract :
In covering the issues of the technology of newsgathering on location, this paper will deal with transmission, and to a degree, the acquisition of material for news bulletins, including `live´ material, from difficult locations around the world-specifically war-zones and remote areas. Most readers are assumed to be familiar with current ENG technology, but perhaps are not so conversant with the current state of SNG, so we will be examining this in conjunction with the logistics of deployment and the problems faced in maintaining both ENG and SNG equipment in the field. Finally, the question of the technology newsgatherers need to use in the future will be considered
