Abstract
In this paper it is demonstrated how the concept of dynamic element matching can be applied to pipelined A/D conversion. It is shown both analytically and with computer simulations that dynamic element matching converts all spurious components to white noise. Only the case of a pipeline with a resolution of 1.5 bit per stage is investigated in detail but a generalisation to pipelined A/D converters with a higher “per stage resolution” is straightforward
