Abstract :
Summary form only given. Time-resolved radiolysis is a potentially powerful tool for optical material research and development, including gallium nitride and zinc oxide for a blue LED and potential laser media that might be directly pumped by an electron-beam. Some time-resolved radiolysis systems have already been developed with linear accelerators. However, most of these systems were not laboratory sized, and they delivered electron beams with too high electron energy for most solid-state spectroscopy. We describe a table-top-sized, hybrid fluorescence spectroscopy system with a low-jitter, picosecond, 3-MeV e-beam from photo cathode and picosecond optical pulses. This system has shown the properties of a e-beam pumped Ce:LiCAF ultraviolet laser medium to significantly differ from those of an optically pumped case.
