Abstract :
Summary form only given. We describe results on the first recording of reflection-type gratings and real-time surface gratings in the new photorefractive crystal Bi/sub 2/TeO/sub 5/. In our experiments, we used a CW Cr-ion laser (wavelength 514 nm). An unexpanded laser beam was directed along the C-axis and the reference beam was formed by the retroreflecting mirror. We have observed maximal diffraction efficiency of the order of 14% with exposure time of 45 min. As well as recording effective volume reflection-type gratings for the first time, we detected nanoscale surface gratings (with period 195 nm) using an atom force microscope.
