Abstract :
Results of a simulation of gamma-ray interactions in a high-purity germanium detector (HPGe) are presented. Gamma-ray interactions have been divided into Compton scattering events which leave only part of their energy in the detector and full energy events which leave all their energy in the detector. The current pulse shapes from the detector were examined on a pulse-by-pulse basis. The simulation shows that rejecting all waveforms with trailing edges less than 50 ns reduces the peak to Compton ratio by a factor of two and greatly flattens the remaining Compton edges.<>
