Abstract
This paper provides an overview of standard development for third generation wireless communications. Two leading proposals based on the CDMA air interface for a terrestrial system: W-CDMA and cdma-2000 are described, and new technologies that will be used in the third generation systems are introduced. The paper also addresses the challenges faced by wireless network planning when the third generation wireless network is deployed
