Abstract :
Considers a circuit-switched multiaccess communications channel which is used to support communications among a specified number of voice and data terminals. This model applies to a large number of circuit-switched data/voice communication network implementations, including circuit-switched LANs (local area networks) and MANs (metropolitan area networks), broadcast satellite communication systems, demand-assigned TDMA (time-division multiple access) and FDMA (frequency-division multiple access) systems, and various broadcast-radio-based communication systems. Data and voice blocking probabilities are computed by using a vector Markov process model and obtaining product-form solutions for the state probabilities. Three components of blocking probabilities are calculated in terms of three components: circuit blocking probability, destination busy probability, and concurrent busy probability. A practical and useful connection pattern is considered. Performance tradeoffs between a fully shared scheme and a partially shared scheme, under which a specified number of circuits is reserved for voice sessions, are illustrated
