Abstract :
We present an improved burst frame synchronization method for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In the proposed method, we use the training data inserted in both the time and frequency domains to perform burst frame synchronization for OFDM transmission. Specifically, the supplementary guard interval inserted in the time domain is used for coarse frame synchronization, and the pilot sub-carriers inserted in the frequency domain are used to further improve the coarse frame synchronization accuracy. It is demonstrated that the proposed burst frame synchronization method can be done within one OFDM symbol period. In addition, it is shown that significant performance improvement can be achieved when the proposed scheme is used
