Abstract :
The cellular ATM network of the future is going to face several challenges due to user mobility and the poor properties of the radio channel. One of these problems is the possible rerouting of on-going calls, while the mobile user changes its point of attachment to the network (i.e. handoff). In a micro- or picocellular environment the number of handoffs can increase causing overload of the network intelligence, because the call processor must calculate new routes and process call admission control after each handoff. Several possible solutions were proposed, one of them is the virtual connection tree. In this paper we present a modeling method to examine analytically and to calculate some properties of virtual connection tree based mobile ATM networks. We present some numerical results calculated for a test network
