Abstract
This paper presents a hardware and software experimental platform that facilitates the development of an advanced wireless communications network for smart electronic healthcare applications. Bi-directional information flows between medical sensors, servers, and end-user devices are enabled by the integration of wireless sensor networks, Wi-Fi backhaul networks, and real-time indoor localization systems. Numerous adaptive routing protocols are developed and implemented. Traffic routing and network topology adaptations in response to instantaneous system status can be done dynamically by a close-loop remote monitoring and controlling channel between network devices and servers. Besides, a smart information management software platform is implemented in order to support context-aware healthcare applications.
