  • Abstract
A new method for propagation prediction in an indoor radio environment based on a rectangular cavity approach is presented in this paper. The received electric field strength in the cavity is derived from the Maxwell equations taking into consideration different electro-magnetic modes. The results of the field strength prediction by the new method are compared to that of a 3D ray launching model for a room having good conductor walls. For the verification of the RL model a comparison between predictions and measurements at 900 MHz in a hall of a shopping centre in the UK is made. The results of the cavity model show its applicability as a reference for the verification of other propagation models. A method of taking into account the signal loss on walls with dielectric character and the extension of the cavity model for a more complex building environment will be the subject of future work
