Abstract
The electricity industry has undergone significant change since privatisation in the 1990s. Asset managers are making critical decisions on investment to ensure the safe and reliable transmission and distribution of electricity. A significant number of asset management interventions are being made on asset data that is collected by people, stored in systems developed by people, translated from various databases into asset prioritisation models by people and ultimately planned and executed by people. This paper explores the link between safety leadership, world class asset management and the critical part played by people in collecting and using asset data. The concept of an emerging transformational asset management model is introduced.
