Abstract
The intelligent node architecture concept is described. It is demonstrated that by attaching a processor, called the application service processor (ASP), to the stored program control switching system and by using the concept of functional components, a supplementary service introduction method can be realized. The authors describe the logical architecture for the ASP, the software architecture, and the interfaces, and present service examples. Some capabilities of the ASP in the intelligent network domain are also discussed
