Abstract
This work presents a general analysis of an extensive survey comprising RF power density measurements around mobile telephony RBS, carried out in Rio de Janeiro city in the past four years. Such kind of measurements has recently become a legal demand from the national regulatory agency for telecommunications (ANATEL) to the cellular telephony operators, due to the growing concern about potential biological effects of the microwave radiation. The adopted technique was based on the use of a spectrum analyzer, rather than on electromagnetic field probes, in order to properly select the actual RF radiation of each operator present at a certain site. A "worst case" factor is also considered in the technique. In the overall, our measurements agree quite well with other results pointed out in the literature. Moreover, field probe measurements carried out together at the same locations of the analyzer also presented similar results, thus corroborating the adopted technique.
