Abstract

Management information system (MIS) is more and more widely used in many aspects, and function modeling is an important step in the designing of MIS. IDEF0 function modeling method was an excellent tool to establish function model, but with the MIS becoming more and more complex, several problems emerged with the method in nowadays. In this paper, the deficiency in practical work of IDEF0 function modeling method is discussed and IDEF0 is extended in three aspects to solve the problems, and a new method named Extended IDEF0 method is presented. The top level of a function model for an equipment support management information system (ESMIS) is given by the Extended IDEF0 method to explain the validity of the new method
