Abstract
The authors note that prior to the introduction of the broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN), there is a need for dedicated networks for broadband communications in the interim time frame. They address the requirements and the potentials of an interim broadband communications network. They discuss a number of scenarios, from the current situation in the telecommunication environment to the future B-ISDN. They focus on the particular needs of the business customer and suggest a structure that can satisfy their increasing bandwidth and functionality requirements without excessive complexity
