Abstract
In this research we present analysis and measurement results of an ultra wide band (UWB) antenna. The rugby-ball shaped antenna is fed by the 50 Ω coaxial cable through an image ground plane and backed by a reflector for the radiation and detection of ultra-short electric pulses. Maximum pulse amplitude occurs at an elevation angle of 60° for broadside radiation. The antenna has an ultra wideband VSWR performance and ´percent bandwidth´ of 198%. The antenna is simple to fabricate and low cost as well.
