            Abstract : 
In this paper, a new balanced planar antenna for UWB applications is proposed. Firstly, a novel uniplanar broadband balun transition is presented, which can either be used as a microstrip-to-microstrip or a microstrip-to-CPS transition. The proposed balun transition consists of a section of asymmetrical tapered edge coupled transmission lines to increase its bandwidth. Then, a balanced UWB planar dipole antenna fed by the proposed planar tapered balun is studied.
