Abstract :
The issues discussed are: should continuing education be required for safety critical systems designers and programmers, do current course offerings satisfy the needs for continuing education of safety critical systems designers and programmers, should certification be required for safety critical systems software designers and programmers, should certification be required for the safety critical systems development process, should certification be enforced through professional societies, or can it only be successful under the control of the state or federal government and what are the alternatives to requiring certification and continuing education?
