Abstract :
The authors introduce the concept of a zone as a subnetwork of ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) switches within which signalling cells are self-routing. the concept appears to have particular benefits for network architectures that utilize a widely distributed control plane. Two such architectures are discussed: mobile networks and the intelligent network
