Abstract :
The aim of this paper is to present to the UWB community the SAW (surface acoustic waves) technology and its ability to propose, today and without hard investments, smart solutions for the RF physical layer of UWB systems whatever the concept is: direct sequence, MB-OFDM or chirp spread spectrum. The paper suggests concrete examples of SAW-based solutions: group delay equalizer, real time Fourier transform or pulse compression technique. These solutions are potentially small size, low cost, low power consumption, and immediate availability. The main concern is acceptance of these analog solutions in an all-digital oriented world.
