  • Abstract
We present a novel ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna embedded in a low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) package designed to house the UWB transceiver chip. A partial ground plane triangular monopole (PGP-TM) having parasitic elements is employed. The design and performance in both the frequency and time domain are presented. The antenna´s measured 3.5 GHz to 6.5 GHz bandwidth and 0 dB gain is suitable for the DS-UWB lower sub-band. The complete LTCC module, which can accommodate the transceiver electronics, measures only 30 mm × 25 mm × 1.2 mm. This is believed to be the first demonstration of system-in-package SIP technology for UWB applications.
