Abstract
In this paper, a new fast analog-to-digital (A/D) counting converter is proposed. The proposed converter is based on the theory of both the flash and the conventional counting converters. Its conversion speed can be increased from that of the slow conventional A/D counting converter up to that of the flash type converter. It is shown that the number of clock cycles needed to complete one conversion cycle in the proposed N-bit A/D converter is 2N-m as compared to 2N in the conventional counting converter, where m=log2k, and k is number of additional comparators needed to implement the new counting A/D converter
