Abstract
This study derives from the research programme ´Intelligent Logistic Systems´, that has been running within the TRAIL Research School since 1994. The aim of this paper is to outline an intelligent logistic system for the area of the Rhine-Schelde Delta as an alternative for, and complement to, the conventional rail and road transport systems. The idea is to design a logistically adequate transport system, which does not take up any more space then is necessary, and has the minimum environmental impact with regard to noise, and uses little energy. The idea is to make more ´smart´ use of the infrastructure, even to make the infrastructure itself ´smarter´
