Abstract
This paper gives a brief account of a way of recognising aircraft using radar range profiles which does not need large numbers of radar measurements of the aircraft of interest beforehand The method is based on constructing backscatter models of the aircraft by identifying regions of high backscatter using drawings, photographs and commercially available scale models of the aircraft. Methods and results are briefly discussed.
