Abstract :
Considers the performance of the terminal adaptor (TA) for ISDN described in CCITT Recommendation V.110, which provides conversion between the V.24 (RS-232) interface and the basic rate user interface at reference point S (or T). Specifically, the authors describe the operation of the TA, and consider the effects of channel errors on its performance. Both theoretical and computer simulation results on inter-TA communication are presented. It is concluded that when channel error probability is greater than 10-3, TA performance begins to degrade. Although the frame acquisition time increases fairly slowly, the time between successive losses of synchronization decreases rather quickly, and the TA begins to spend a nonnegligible amount of time attempting to reacquire synchronization
