Abstract
BellSouth began its deployment of ISDN (integrated services digital network) with testing in 1987 and customer service in March 1988 in Atlanta, Georgia. This and other deployments involve multiple central offices using three digital switch vendors and use Common Channel Signaling System 7. Both basic and primary rate accesses are being offered. The author reviews the initial deployments, the transition to true ISDN, and standards. The 1990 volume ISDN deployment and the transition to broadband ISDN are also discussed
