Abstract :
It is well known that the conditions of the continuous casting machine will affect the slab quality like surface or internal cracking. Therefore, it is very important to check the strand conditions and maintain them always in good condition for keeping consistent slab quality and casting operation. POSCO has developed the strand condition monitoring system with wireless telemetry data communication. The monitoring system is designed to measure the roll gap, the roll bending, the roll alignment, the roll rotation fault and the spray quality. It consists of the sensors, controller, hydraulic pump, PCM encoder and batteries. The monitor is attached at the end of the dummy-bar and works automatically from insertion to withdrawal of a dummy bar. The data for strand condition is transmitted instantly to the main computer which is located in the operating room by PCM telemetry
