  • Abstract
The interest in global spectrum allocation techniques is growing with the always-increasing spectrum demand for mobile communications. Therefore, efficient dynamic channel allocation techniques are needed to reduce the blocking probability of the arriving calls and to enhance the capacity of the cellular system. In this paper, a new dynamic channel assignment algorithm (DCA) is proposed. The channel assignment problem is formulated as an energy minimization problem that is implemented by a modified, discrete Hopfield network for which a fast hardware implementation has been previously proposed in the literature. As a figure of merit, the performance of the proposed DCA technique is derived by computer simulation in terms of the blocking probability of the arriving calls. Comparisons with the classical fixed channel allocation (FCA) technique have been carried out to highlight the performance of the proposed DCA algorithm. The results indicate that the performance of the proposed DCA is much better than that of the FCA
