Abstract :
To prevent errors due to alias components in the regular bandpass sampling of a real bandlimited signal, the sampling rate must be chosen so that the occupied signal bandwidth does not straddle adjacent higher order Nyquist zones. This is in addition to satisfying the minimum Nyquist-Landau (1967) sampling rate criterion. For randomized bandpass sampling the average sampling rate only has to exceed the Nyquist-Landau rate. A communications system example is presented to highlight the advantages of using randomized bandpass sampling for the recovery of the complex envelope from a modulated carrier signal
