  • Abstract
    A numerical simulation procedure developed to simulate blood flow in the vicinity of artificial heart valves is presented. The distribution of shear rate in the flow field and its profile on the valve leaflet, which cannot be measured in experiments, is obtained from the numerical simulation results. It shows that the maximum shear rate occurs at the tip of the valve leaflet and the affected region is quite small
