  • Abstract
A wide area protection system (WAPS) based on "three defensive lines" is proposed, which is integrated functions of relay protection, emergency control, asynchrony detection and separation in one system by utilizing wide area measurement information. The operation process of WAPS is described. The definition of relationship factor (RF) and action factor (AF) of protection IED are introduced and protection criterion based on wide area information is studied. Case study shows that this protection criterion is effective in fault location and IED failure detection.
