  • Abstract
A control scheme based on fuzzy logic is proposed. The objective is to design a fuzzy controller without any particular system in mind. The inputs to the controller are the error and the change in error of the system response. A set of fuzzy rules that makes the controller look like a proportional-plus-derivative (PD) controller is obtained and simulated on Matrix/sub x/, a software package for the analysis and design of control systems. The controller used to control a servo motor, a flexible arm with one vibration mode and a system with three vibration modes was found to give satisfactory results. The results are compared to those obtained from systems using proportional-plus-derivative controllers. One major advantage of the fuzzy controller is its robustness to system parameter changes.<>
