Abstract :
Electronic ballasts with a self-excited series-load resonant inverter may suffer from a relatively large current when the fluorescent lamp fails to maintain a normal arc current or its output terminals have been accidentally short-circuited. This paper proposes an effective protection circuit to block up the inverter before any damage is done to circuit components. Experimental tests on a design example for a 36 W compact fluorescent lamp are given to illustrate the protection function
