Abstract :
Defines a discrete state continuous time Markov model for a range of integrated voice/data multiplexer (IVDM) systems. The system model is stated, and a method for exact analysis is given. Numerical results corresponding to a T1 rate are presented for three systems. Results are obtained for data sources that are local (high-speed access) or remote (DS0 voice channel rate access) to the multiplexer. It is shown that delays for remote data sources are higher than those for local sources, yet exhibit less variance. Furthermore, remote data sources allow optimal queuing power operation at efficiencies greater than that for local data sources
