Abstract :
Graphical software-development mechanisms are presented that produce server networks, which are flexible, modular CIM (computer-aided manufacturing) software systems. The Server Network Generator (SNG) is an interactive expert system used to graphically configure a network, while automatically enforcing network integrity rules, and to remotely develop and maintain its distributed software. Graphical programming is used with the data-driven control-flow methodology (DDCF) and an interprocess communication mechanism called share variables to implement flexible server communication. A prototype server network, including an SNG, a dispatcher, and servers, has been built and is in use
