Abstract :
Describes the current 1PSS (No.1 Packet Switching System) network management strategy for administering and maintaining the AT&T Packet Transport Network using the Network Control Center System (NCCS). The 1PSS strategy of distributing some of the network management functions from the NCCS to the highly interactive and user-friendly 1PSS workstations during a field trial in 1988 is introduced. The workstations are based on the AT&T Work Group System with high-resolution color graphics. The distributed network management functions include status monitoring of network connectivity, packet switches, inter-packet-switch trunks, X.25 access lines, X.75 gateway link facilities, and facility maintenance capabilities, such as remove, restore, and test
