Abstract :
The author proposes operations technologies for the second-generation intelligent network IN/2, that are necessary because of the distributed nature of this architecture. They suggest that current operations technologies be extended to add a services view in IN/2. As examples they describe surveillance techniques that offer a high probability of observing the quality of service provided by the several network elements that make up the service and test techniques that can be used to respond to customer-perceived troubles and to quantify transport, logic, and node performances
