Abstract :
Hierarchical cellular systems are usually adopted in the non-uniform traffic environment, especially when hot spots exist. Considering the spatial fluctuation of traffic load, three schemes to adjust the coverage area of a microcell, namely ATP (adjusting total transmission power of microcell base station), ARP (adjusting the ratio of pilot signal power to the total transmission power), and ABP (adjusting both of them), are mathematically analyzed in this paper. The system performances of these schemes are also shown by the numerical examples.
