Abstract
Single-cell DC-DC buck converter is a power electronics circuit well known to exhibit nonlinear phenomena such as bifurcations, period doubling and chaos. A two-cell DCDC converter can also exhibit similar phenomena. However, critical parameter values are different. In this paper we will carry out a comparative study between the nonlinear behavior of the two circuits. We will show by numerical simulation some qualitative differences between the phenomena presented and we give a possible explanation. It will be shown that the two-cell converter is more robust in front of the input voltage variation. This can be exploited to use small value of output capacitor which result in small size, low cost and weight.
