Abstract :
Nickel nanorods with tunable diameters and lengths have been synthesized via a combined technique of PEG (polyethylene glycol)-assisted hydrothermal and thermal decomposition reducing method. The diameters and lengths of rods could be easily controlled by using different molecular mass of PEG. The structure, morphology and magnetic properties of the products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis-differential scanning calorimetry (TGA-DSC) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results of magnetic measurements showed that specific saturation magnetization and coercivity values of as-prepared nickel nanorods with P-20 reached as high as 33.831 emu middot g-1 and 198 Oe, respectively
